Meet the Team
Alan Pickering, the owner of Marlborough Motors, has worked in the motor trade for over thirty years. His two passions in life are cars and being a devoted Manchester City fan, whom he has followed since childhood.
Alan firmly believes in providing a quality service at a fair price for all of his customers. He is extremely proud of the fact that Marlborough Motors is approved by the Motor Industry Code of Practice as he feels this shows the team’s total commitment to the Trading Standards Institute-approved Code of Practice.
Always keen to share his knowledge and give back to the community, Alan has worked with local colleges and schools for many years to provide training and work experience to local students. One of Alan’s proudest moments was when he took on apprentice Nathan Burke in 2010 and, in 2011, Nathan won the prestigious Pride of Tameside – Apprentice of the Year Award.
A real advocate for bringing business into the borough of Tameside, Alan is a key figure in the local BNI chapter (Business Network International) which aims to bring new work into local businesses. BNI is the world’s largest and most successful business referral network. It is one of the most cost-effective forms of advertising available and works well for Alan because of the local approach and his honest reputation.
Nathan Burke started work at Marlborough motors as an Apprentice Mechanic. Since leaving college, he has worked solely for Marlborough Motors, where Alan has imparted his wisdom into Nathan. Due to his talent, work ethic and commitment, Alan has felt confident enough to invite Nathan to be a partner in the business. It’s a real local success story and one which both partners are very proud of.
Like Alan, Nathan shares a passion for sports alongside cars. But the similarities stop there! With Alan preferring football, Nathan is an ardent follower of Leeds Rhinos. Nathan likes to give something back to his local community which has done so much for him. He gives up a lot of his spare time to coach young people at a local rugby club
Nathan is also a member of the BNI community in Greater Manchester, where he attends the meetings on a weekly basis.
